Sprouts / Microgreens / Germination
Every gardener knows that under the cloak of winter lies a miracle, a seed waiting to sprout, a bulb opening to the light, a bud straining to unfurl. And the anticipation nurtures our dream.”

Fall is the Best Time to Plant Trees and shrubs Because…
Although nurseries and garden centers have less stock at this time, fall is the best time to plant deciduous trees and shrubs. Stefan is based in Quebec and has a permaculture you-pick orchard. He invites wildlife to his site with open arms.
Native options to consider before planting
These support our wildlife and grow well in our zone.
Monoculture gardening is growing all of the same thing.
Polyculture gardening is planting a variety of things and copying nature.
By planting things all mixed up, you may be able to harvest at least some of the plants that are being eaten by wildlife. At the least, you can monitor and find ecological solutions to problems when they are in smaller patches.
PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING: This is not about YOUR favorite plant. Think ‘Big Picture’. As large horticulture companies realize the popularity of natives, they will be altering them by the millions. “Most cultivars are created by cloning (asexual reproduction, such as with plant cuttings), in which clones of the parent plant are produced.” This is not the biodiversity we are trying to achieve.
How to use Weeds as Soil Indicators.
Which of these “weeds” are on your property and what are they telling you about your soil?
Weeds are a symptom, not the cause, of a problem. We can observe weeds to read the landscape, determine what reparative steps need to be taken, and speed up the natural sequence of recovery
